With the holiday season upon us, we thought it would only be suitable to feature a family dynamic in the world of style and so I present to you the story of Pacific Leather Works. After leaving the Air Force, artist John D. Andersen settled in Germany with his family. A master craftsman, Andersen’s ability to not only match colors but make repairs practically invisible led him to the leather restoration industry. His impeccable talent to work with colors to not only earn a nice living for his family but also allowed him to be highly recognized by the German Museum in Munich (Das Deutsche Museum) where he restored an antique leather tapestry. Now, fast forward a couple of decades, Andersen moved the family to the Seattle area and kept at his craft and so did the rest of the family. Today Andersen’s company, Pacific Leather Works is not only a family owned operation but is taking a giant leap forward as a leader in the restoration world.

Neli Andersen, Jon’s daughter in law, wife of John’s eldest son Hans and a key member of Pacific Leather Works says, “We want our customers to know that we do not bring to the market just another product. We are specialists, craftsman and innovators committed to excellence and for this reason we offer products which will exceed any expectation.” She adds, “Joining the Andersen family and getting to know their talent, their love and passion for beauty and excellence gave me the idea that we make the perfect team!”

The team at Pacific Leather Works is ever evolving and spanning generations. Hans long ago realized his passion for restoration and took a genuine interest in his father’s work. Educated in Philosophy, European law and business management at the University level, Hans has since become a principal figure in the family business. Neli says, “Han’s is our source of innovation. His incredible patience, persistence and drive for perfection have contributed to the development of our 1-Step product line that we are very proud of – European Leather Restorer and Black Jacket.” As well, they also branched out to the cruise industry too. Is there any area of the restoration business the Andersen family hasn’t covered?

There is a lot to be said about the dedication and determination of the Andersens and Pacific Leather Works. It comes down to true artists mastering their craft to produce undeniable beauty, even to pieces that were at one time in risk of losing its luster and life. It’s something to consider during these holiday times when we give thanks for the opportunities we have every day. It’s good to know that family values can also be transferred into the world of business – with integrity mind you. Neli says, “We are the best, because we do go the extra mile, and the extra mile is never crowded.” I couldn’t have said it any better than that.
